The school choir is used as a metaphor for society and an excuse to talk about how to shape good interpersonal relationships. Zsófi is a new student becomes a victim of unfair treatment. Together with her friend Liza, she will fight for her rights.
Based on a true story, Sing follows an award-winning school choir and the new girl in class facing a tough choice: to stand up against a corrupt system – or to fit quietly into it. The suggested activities in the Nerve Centre Lesson Plan below can easily be used to support cross-curricular/connected learning at Key Stage 3. You may choose to deliver all the activities within one department or work cross-departmentally to deliver particular activities.
The lesson plan will develop students' understanding of the ‘Power of a Voice’ and standing up for what is right compared to ‘fitting in’. Students will study the film and "First they Came" and consider how they might make a difference.
There are 3 suggested activities: 1. Watch the film and consider the issues of fairness, friendships and rights . 2. Experience an unfair situation through game based learning. 3. Plan and create a short film/digital story about a cause they believe in.
The lessons aim to build student’s proactive attitude towards their surroundings and support others in their initiatives.
The lesson focuses on inclusion and what does it mean to take others’ needs into consideration.
The worksheets support students critical thinking about the film. The students will explore and identify key moments in the story and focus on the characters' behaviour and emotions. It provides frameworks for group discussion and planning for a film/digital story about a cause they believe in.
